At the end of June and earlier in July, Dr. Dolly Garnecki was invited to Shanghai, China to teach at a Spinal Disorders Conference for the Xin Hua hospital affiliated with the Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
There were over 50 spinal rehabilitation doctors, physical therapists, medical doctor fellows and interns in attendance.
Dr. Garnecki was one of two lecturers from the United States invited to teach–there were also guest lecturers from Belgium, and many other major cities of China.
‘Even though I was going on little sleep at my first meeting (try 29 hours of being awake), and it took me close to six days of my ten day trip to get fully acclimated to the twelve-hour time zone difference, I had a wonderful time!’

‘After teaching at the conference, I spent most of the week working with doctors, physiotherapists and interns reviewing therapeutic exercises for the scoliosis condition.’
One patient and his family relocated to Shanghai from Singapore for the opportunity to get world-class treatment for his scoliosis from the Spinal Rehabilitation Clinic at Xin Hua Hospital–considered the most prominent pediatric hospital in China.
Dr. Garnecki was able to meet this patient and many other scoliosis patients who came seeking non-surgical rehabilitation treatment from the clinic at the Xin Hua hospital in Shanghai.
After a successful lecture and teaching week, Dr. Garnecki received multiple informal invitations from a non-government organization working with children with cerebral palsy, Xin Hua Hospital, and medical associations to return to China to teach again in the near future.
